Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) is one of the specialities of our team of surgeons

All our rhinoplasty surgeries are operated in conjunction by both a Plastic surgeon and a head and neck/ENT specialist in a team. This helps to achieve best possible outcomes regarding form and function.

Specialists in complex rhinoplasty

This interdisciplinary approach to rhinoplasty has made our department a reference center especially for complex rhinoplasty, which is unique in Spain. Both shape of the nose as well as functional problems, for example septum deviation, are corrected in the same operation. We routinely combine aesthetic rhinoplasty with laser turbinectomy for better breathing wherever necessary. Our audit and review data shows without any doubt that significantly better rhinoplasty result are achieved in the team approach, both from an aesthetic as well as functional point of view.

Rhinoplasty is mostly performed in a closed technique, which means that there is no external incision.this does of course on each individual case.

What you might want to know about rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)

Do I have to stay in hospital after Rhinoplasty ?

For maximum patient safety we prefer a one night stay in case any bleeding occurs after the procedure.
Such incidences are very rare, but we prefer to be cautious. Most patients will have a nasal pack for the first night, especially if septum correction has been performed.

Can I have a Rhinoplasty under local anesthesia?

Yes you can, although we will prefer general anesthesia as more comfortable for patients.
Local anesthesia is usually reserved for nasal tip corrections. We do not recommend to do major nasal framework nor septum straightening under local anesthetic.

When am I social after Rhinoplasty ?

Usually after one week. Individual variances do of course apply.

Does Rhinoplasty hurt ?

Rhinoplasty is not a very painful procedure.
Analgesia (pain killer) consumption is amongst the lowest of all cosmetic surgery procedures.
The analgesia score (measured in a 1-10 scale) is 1,8, so about the lowest possible.

When do I see the final result of my Rhinoplasty ?

Removal of humps on the back of the nose is visible immediately, there is always some degree of swelling which may take some weeks to resolve.Swelling does usually affect mainly the nasal tip.

When does the bruising disappear?

Usually within the first fourteen days after the procedure.

How long do I have to stay in hospital after rhinoplasty?

One night.

How long do I need to wear the splint on the nose?

The splint is only necessary in cases where we have to reshape the nasal bones. It is removed after 7 days.

How is Cirumed different in rhinoplasty surgery?

Our surgeons have experience in far above average number of rhinoplasty cases. Further to this, Cirumed is pioneering modern cutting edge rhinoplasty surgery by offering specialist team approaches. All rhinoplasty operations are carried out by a team of both a Plastic as well as an ENT surgeon.

Will I be able to breathe better after Rhinoplasty ?

In about 70% of nose correction operations, we perform endoscopic correction of the septum or turbinectomy together with the aesthetic reshaping
. This improves breathing.
It is our quality protocol that all rhinoplasties, without exception, must be operated by a team of two specialists, one ENT-surgeon and one Plastic surgeon.
A large number of patients are not even aware of impaired breathing before rhinoplasty surgery, because they have been used to their deviated septum all their life.

Does this operation involve a scar ?

Not usually.
We prefer the so-called closed technique for the majority if cases, which works with incisions inside the nose.
With this technique there are no visible scars.
Open rhinoplasty is usually reserved for those patients who had trauma and/or a previous nasal surgery.

Will my healthcare insurance pay for rhinoplasty?

Healthcare insurers fund rhinoplasty for functional reasons, when septum corrections are necessary.
Rhinoplasty may also be funded to correct disfigurement after an accident.
Aesthetic rhinoplasty will not usually be covered by healthcare insurers. Combination of both situations does occur, this means that we often see patients who want to make use of a functional operation to achieve aesthetic improvement at the same time.
In these cases, the healthcare insurer usually covers those expenses related to the functional surgery.
