Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) is a relatively short, safe procedure that is separated into upper and lower eyelid surgery. The eyelid lift is one of the most popular cosmetic facial procedures in our practice.
Eyelid lift is very effective in facial rejuvenation and has got one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in cosmetic surgery. The eye area is numbed with local anesthetic, sedation can be added upon patient request. Eyelid lift surgery takes about 1-1,5 hours.
Patient satisfaction in average is one of the highest among all surgical procedures. It improves the appearance of both the upper and lower eyelids, drawing out a more youthful appearance. It can also be used to correct vision problems due to sagging eyelids.
To adress fine wrinkling, we do usually combine this procedure with a facial laser, such as Fraxel, Co2 or Fractora laser. Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is an ambulatory procedure. Patients go home the same day. The laser technique makes bruising minimal.
Ideally the upper eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) should make the eyes somewhat “wider” and create a fresher, more youthful appearence. On the lower eyelids the main concern patients have is bags under the eyelids which makes patients look sad and tired. This should improved during lower eyelid Blepharoplasty.
Yes, absolutely. Eyelid lift is always done under local anestesia, sedation can be added if patients require.
The eyelids tend to be very forgiving with view to scarring. On the upper eyelids, the procedure ususally involves a fine line scar in the upper eyelid crease. Thanks to the nature of the eyelid skin that scar is usually very inconspicious and notnoticeable. The lower eyelids can be done without an outer scar in most cases.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) is a day case operation which does not involve any major recovery periods. However, bruising is anticipated and subject to individual predisposition. You may or may not have it.Bruising after a blepharoplasty normally prevails for roughly a week. Females do easily disguise the bruising with make up.
Not normally. Bear in mind that pain is an individual experience, but analgesia consumption after eyelid lift is normally very low.
Depends on each patient. I guess in most cases about 10 years, but that depends on lifestyle and more importantly genetics. In some it lasts more, in some less.
Absolutely, and in some, but not all cases I do actually advise to do so. We also like to combine eyelid lift with micro-fat grafts and platelet rich plasma (PRP)injections, for more dramatic results.
On the upper eyelid immediately, although there is some swelling which subsides within the first 14 days. On the lower eyelids, it takes a few weeks more to appreciate the full final result.
That is a potential but rare problem after lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Overresection of skin can lead or muscle damage and therewith to downward traction of the eyelid. To avoid this, we regard it as mandatory to abstain from skin resection (or only a minimal one). I am furthermore inclined to put internal sutures lifting the lower eyelid margin to the orbital rim, a so-called canthopexy suture, to prevent this from happening.
On the upper eylelids there is no absolute restrictions. On the lower eyelids, my guideline is that the lower eyelid lift should not be done more than twice.
