The Brazilian Butt Lift Surgeons have revealed that the new trend for cosmetic surgery coming to Europe from the United States is the so called ‘Brazilian Butt Lift’.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons have reported that the number of patient requests for the Brazilian Butt Lift rose by 474% between 2004 and 2008, which is by far the sharpest increase in any single procedure in the last three decades. In the United States, this procedure is well established as ‘beach body’ surgery and in Miami and Los Angeles, which are the traditional plastic surgery hotspots, the results of this trend are clearly obvious. Extremely slim waists paired with firm and curvy buttocks are the rule rather than the exception, an extreme look that is impossible to achieve with just diet and exercise. “The name ‘Brazilian Butt Lift’ is somewhat misleading as the procedure did not originate in Brazil, but was developed in the U.S.” says Dr. Alexander Aslani, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Málaga’s Quirón Hospital.
Apart from his position as Chairman of the Quirón Plastic Surgery department, he is also in private practice at the Cirumed Clinic in Marbella. Dr. Aslani and his team of specialists have seen a massive increase in enquiries for this kind of surgery in the last two years. “In Spain this kind of surgery has always been more popular than elsewhere in Europe and I believe that’s related to the lifestyle”, says the surgeon. Whilst in America, voluptuous celebrities like So what is a Brazilian Butt Lift? “Essentially, the Brazilian Butt Lift consists of removal of fat from one area and transfer to another, a procedure that we call fat transfer or fat grafting,” says Dr. Aslani. “In the ideal scenario, this fat is taken from typical female problem zones such as saddlebags and love handles. The goal is not really to make the buttock bigger but to make them shapelier, firmer and tighter. For a good result, creating a slim waist and shapely legs is as important as the fat transfer.”
So will Marbella be the point of entry for Brazilian Butt Lift surgery in Europe?
“I think so, at least to a certain degree,” says Dr. Aslani. “In the U.S, the surgery has seen the greatest demand in beach locations in Florida and California. Speaking for my own practice, I can definitely confirm that the increase in demand is dramatic. I do not know how far this is influenced by the fact that we are in the South of Spain, although I am convinced that Marbella will once again be a trendsetter in this regard.” But Marbella does not only score with its location, it is also seen as a hotspot for new technology. “I think that our increase in Brazilian Butt Lift enquiries can only be explained by the fact that we practice in a place like Marbella. The procedure works best in combination with jet-assisted liposculpture, the so-called Body Jet lipocollector technology. It enables precise contour shaping and the harvest of high quality fat transplants at the same time. The jet assisted fat transfer technique has got the best take rates documented in scientific literature, and it makes it possible to do the procedure under local anesthetic. Since we are the only hospital department in Spain using this technology, this will most definitely contribute to a concentration of patient referrals.
So who is it right for?
“It works best in patients who want their buttocks to be firmer and shapelier, and at the same time have excess fat that they would want to get rid of”, says Dr. Aslani. “Many patients initially come for fat removal, and they are usually quite happy to learn that the fat that bothers them so much in one place can be of enormous aesthetic benefit elsewhere. We use the latest version of the Canfield 3D Mirror photosimulation system, so we simulate on the actual patient what the effect of any cosmetic surgical procedure would look like.”
