Question: What is the every facelift age ?
Dr.Aslani: There is no preset facelift age, everybody ages differently.Generally the average age is rising because increased effectivity of non-surgical alternatives keeps patients happier over a longer time.
Question: Does a facelift tend to be a very painful operation ?
Answer: Usually not. Everybody is different though, bear that in mind, but generally facelift surgery tends to be some of the less painful operations in cosmetic surgery.
Question: What is a necklift ? Is that a small facelift ?
Dr.Aslani:The definition of necklift as in compared to facelift varies from surgeon to surgeon . Specifically it means plication of platysmal (turkey gobbler) bands in the midline. The approach is limited and , as I am afraid I have to say, so is the result of the plain necklift.
Question: What timespan can the results of a facelift be expected to last for ?
Dr.Aslani:There is different extents of facelift surgery where the surgeon works in different anatomical planes. Skin only resections in facelift surgery are, form my point of view insufficient though still practised.Deep plane faceliftfacelifts should last around 10 years , possibly longer. There are other factors influencing this on which the surgeon has got no influence.
Question:Is the facelift scar very visible ?
Dr.Aslani:In fair skinned individuals any problems with scars after a facelift are exceedingly rare. Should scar problems occur in fair skinned patients, the tend to do so behind the ear where I tend to distribute tension.Normally facelift scars heal more or less invisibly. In darker skin scar problems are more frequent, but not common, and can normally be treated conservatively.
Question: What is to your experience the most common problem after a facelift ?
Dr.Aslani: Amnesia. Patients tend to forget what the looked like before their face lift surgery. I notice a peak of this problem normally about 6-8 months after surgery. Normally a look at the photo before the facelift helps wonders.
Question: What is the expected recovery ?
Dr.Aslani: One week to 10 days, depending on extent of the facelift and personal predisposition. Treaces of teh facelift after surgery can easily be concealed with make-up after that time should need arise.
Question: What are the most common adjuncts to facelift surgery ?
Dr.Aslani: Liposcution to the neck, chin implants, browlifts and cheek implants. Mesotheraopy as adjunctive treatemnet in preparation for a facelift or aftercare treatemnt, can significantly enhance results.All of these surgical additions make sense, I would only be very careful with cheek implants, since the yield a very high infection risk.
Question: Can facelift lead to paralysis of the face ?
Dr.Aslani: This is the most dreaded complication of a facelift . Fortunately, it is very rare, and I have never seen a case in my practice so far I have to say. Thankfully the condition is normally self-limiting if the facial nerve has not been cut during the facelift which should not happen if the surgeon has the most basic knowledge of facial anatomy (what is prudent knowledge to have before embarking on a facelift ).
Question: Do I need to wear special garments after a facelift ?
Dr.Aslani: I prefer to apply a mild pressure dressing after a facelift . The face ics very well vascularised so there is certain potential for bleeding after the facelift (hematoma), and a mild pressure dressing is excellent prevention against that.
Question: Can I combine a facelift with a browlift ?
Dr.Aslani: Yes , you can. It makes the procedure a lot more extensive though and there is significantly more swelling. Beware of combining a facelift with and eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) though.
Question: I want liposuction under m neck in conjunction with my facelift. Is this a good idea ?
Dr.Aslani:Depends.It is sometimes a very good idea, but heralds a certain risk of irregularities of the neck. In heavy necks it may be very advisable, but secondary touchups, often just simple procedures under local anesthesia, may be necessary.
